I think I’m liking lists lately. So here’s another one:

• Brewery Vivant while in Grand Rapids this weekend
• Survive 10 days of events for Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 17-27)
• Ada Street for a cocktail or two
• Publican Quality Meats for a weekday lunch
• Whistler patio on a warm night
• Drink a Letherbee gin cocktail (only available at L&E and Lula)
• Trenchermen, whenever the hell it decides to open

Last Friday, returning from the Empty Bottle, I stepped off the L into a sea of kids who were coming from some dubstep show at the Congress. In my 420 haze, I took my time walking along the platform and came across two dudes at the top of the stairs. Both standing there awkwardly. One was cute, holding a skateboard. And the other was probably a neighborhood tourist. They didn’t appear to know eachother.

“Are you guys gonna go” motioning to the flight of stairs, “or just having fun standing around?” I smiled and made my way down to the street.

I crossed California and felt someone’s presence. In that creepy “I’m a slightly fucked up girl walking alone in Logan Square after midnight please don’t assault me” sense. Skateboard dude was literally a foot behind me.

“Oh, hey,” I said as he started walking next to me. “Um… what’s up?” 

We walked the length of Lyndale together (one very long block), chatted about the kids on the train (I had no clue whatever act at the Congress was dubstep and that’s all the rage with the kids these days), what we had been up to that night (he was supposed to be at the Bloodiest show but it was the closing night at some skateboarding “gallery”), how I left early because I had to rise early the next morning (which was a half-truth), that he lived south along Sacramento and I lived a block north.

We reached Sacramento. There was a pause. In my mind, I’m thinking “get his number” “kiss him” “invite him over” “ask him out for a nightcap” and that moment felt like an eternity. We both shrugged. And agreed it was nice chatting. And as he turned around to cross the street, he left me with “It’s too bad you have to work early tomorrow” and a wink.

I could’ve died.

The Logan is re-opening this weekend! So excited!

Too bad I have a St Paddy’s Day party in Bucktown that starts at 9am…. Maybe I’ll be coherent enough to attend to the 3:10 showing of Goonies!?

Why do I feel like this girl lives in Logan Square? Oh yeah, the haircut, the body type, the hipster bedroom eyes…. all the girls look the same!

In case you haven’t heard about this rally, there ya go.

I woke up at 9am on New Year’s Day and this was the first thing I read about. The brutal attack and rape of an 18 year-old girl by a GROUP of males. It’s revolting, it’s inexcusable, it’s sickening.

I don’t know how to describe the anger I feel towards these boys. To be violated in such a way. To be beaten and left for dead. FUCK THAT.

Let’s gather as neighbors and as a community and let our presence be know. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

This is the rapist my friend and I came face to face with in my Logan Square alley last Wednesday night while I was moving in. If you see this prick, call the police.
